This is a fine example of a period Regency Carved Giltwood Eagle surmounted mirror. The mirror displays a wonderful proportion with a 24 inch diameter with finely carved details that double the height. The top of the mirror is surmounted by a finely carved gilt wood eagle (almost in flight) perched on exquisitely carved and gilt rook work. The lower section of the well defined and perfectly carved shell terminates in a carved leaf pendant. The mirror is further detailed with 24 gilt wood spheres surrounding an interior ebonized wide-reeded ring that contains the 18" diameter convex. mirror. The mirror is in very good original condition with minor professional restorations to the shell and tips to the eagle's wings. The convex mirror is antique and dates to the late 19th century, but is not original.
