This is a good pair of early 18th century Italian Baroque hall chairs. The chairs are in overall good condition considering their three hundred years of use. The appropriate upholstery most probably dates to the early 20th century. The velvet seats and backs are detailed in a wide woven silk tape, fringe and nail heads. These chairs are highly decorative and would add a sculptural quality to their space.
There are old repairs due to 300 years of use. Both chairs are sturdy. The finials have suffered losses due to wear with one pair of the finials daing to the 19th century. Wear consistent with age and use. The surface of the walnut is old, probably not original and there is old, but inactive indications of past worming. The chairs are newly waxed in the old European tradition. Please study the photos for more detailed information
