Pair 19th Century Italian Carved Altar Sticks

$1,875.00

This is a classic pair of 19th century Italian pricket sticks in the Baroque style. The prickets date to the mid-19th century, possibly late 18th century and are in overall very good original condition. The elegant nearly 30-inch height and original surface makes these examples great decorative elements. Pricket or Altar Sticks such as these were religious and/or decorative utilitarian objects used throughout Europe and Colonial America from the 17th century through the 19th and into the 20th centuries. As pieces that were in daily use, the surface condition of the sticks was often highly degraded; these particular examples have preserved their original painted surfaces while acquiring a deep natural patina. These prickets would integrate perfectly into a Spanish, French or Latin American design aesthetic and are ready for their new home.

Dimensions: 29.5”h x 7”w x 7”d
