George II Mahogany Pie Crust Tilt top Table

$7,500.00

This is an outstanding example of a George II Mahogany Piecrust Tilt Top table. Although we have given the table an English origin, it is quite possibly Irish. The top surface of dark rich mahogany has mellowed over the years; the surface is old, but not original. The piecrust rim is beautifully elaborated with 10 carved shells alternating with 10 scollops. The tripod pedestal is beautifully proportioned and carved with fine carved detailing to the knees and feet. The deeply carved scrolls where the legs meet the pedestal are unusually and a distinguishing element. The hand forged iron spider is very unusual and adds even more interest. The table is in overall very good original condition** and waiting for its next home. We are having the table professionally cleaned and polished with several coats of hard paste wax.

**There is perhaps a very old adaptation of the tilt assembly from bird cage form to a simple tilt form.
