Mid-18th Century Painting of a Young Boy

$4,500.00

This is a charming naive painting of a young John Davis, son of Gregory Davis of Norfolk, painted by Bridget Bereners (?). The exquisite quality of the framing is an indication of the stature and wealth of the Davis family. Young John is pictured wearing a deep green jacket decorated with a long ruby red sash which serves to bring the eye into the painting. Both the painting and the frame are in very good original condition. It is unusual to find this type of portrait still united with its original frame as this type of frame was frequently pirated for use as a mirror.
