Italian Baroque Cassone

$5,650.00

This is a beautiful example of an early Minimalist 17th century Italian Cassone. The cassone is in overall good condition considering its nearly 400 years of use. The walnut case retains its original elements; the lock hasp is no longer present. There are several age-related cracks and minor old worming--which are verifications of the age of the cassone and enrich the natural patina. The painted decoration is not original and probably dates to the 19th century, if not before. The Gothic tracery and paneling appear to be original. The dimensions of the cassone allow it to be used as unique sideboard, console or table. The cassone would incorporate perfectly into California, Spanish or Mediterranean design.
