Chinoiserie Cabinet-On-Stand, c. 1950

$4,250.00

This is a stunning Chinoiserie (Japanned) Cabinet-On-Stand that dates to c. 1950-1960. Note the gorgeous highly detailed brass hardware. The painted Chinoiserie decoration is detailed and extends to both sides of the cabinet. The cabinet features a single shelf (more could be added) and is the perfect piece to be adapted to bar-cabinet. We always like to leave the original surfaces of our pieces intact—for this cabinet, we have touched up the painted surface. There is a spot on the top surface where water settled. We have smoothed and waxed the surface; the water stained section shows a bit lighter. If desired, we can refinish the top—which will removed the desirable patina.

This form of Cabinet-On-Stand was adapted from Chinese and Japan cabinets of the 15th - 17th centuries. Lacquered Cabinets-On-Stands became very popular in the Queen Anne (early 18th c.) and George II reigns—this cabinet derives its aesthetics from the early 18th c. English cabinets.

Condition: Very Good

Dimensions: 57.5”h x 35.5”w x 18”d

Age: c. 1950 - 1960

Country of Origin: Attributed: England or United States
