Caucasian Rug Upholstered Bench, Hand-Woven Bohemian Style
This is a unique design of a multi-functional bench upholstered, unexpectedly, in a large antique Caucasian flat weave bag/basket with multiple woven rings or loops that most probably were used to pull the side together, like a belt. The hand woven flatweave bottom of the sachtel or bag most probably dates tothe first half of the twentieth century and forms the bench upholstery or covering; the fully upholstered bench dates to the end of the 20th century or beginning of the 21st . The geometric pattern and strong coloration contribute to the positive energy that the bench gives to the the space it inhabits. Caucasian rugs are hand-knotted, durable carpets from the Caucasus region (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan), renowned for bold geometric patterns, vibrant natural dyes, and rich tribal symbolism. Dating back to the 19th century, Caucasian rugs often feature wool-on-wool or wool-on-cotton construction, vivid reds and blues, and stylized motifs representing strength and heritage. This bench would make an unusual end--of-bed seating; dining or breakfast room bench; fireside bench, etc. **We have listed a second similar bench separately.
Condition:
GoodWear consistent with age and use. The bench is in very sturdy condition. The cover has lost one of the bottom edge loops/rings--which is shown in the photo and which is barely noticeable as it is located at the lower edge of an end panel.
