MJH DesignArts offers a wide range of 17th c. through 18th c. antique furnishing, 20th c. furnishings, paintings, works on paper, lighting and decorative objects. Additionally, we design and create unique lighting elements many of which have been shipped throughout the United States and to Europe. We have turned our love of textiles into a line of unique custom vintage Mariano Fortuny pillows; 17th c. and 18th c. tapestry pillows are in the works. MJH DesignArts honors the creative design elements of the past 400 years: from the Baroque to the Neoclassical, Jansen to Vervoordt, Fortuny to Duquette, Arturo Pani to Eileen Gray and all of the great elements in between. We hope to choose decorative items for this site that can touch the finger tips of these great influences and be incorporated into any design theme.

MJH DesignArts is an evolution of MJH Decorative Arts which, for the past 15 years, has offered antique and contemporary furnishing and art from the 17th through 20th century. "As my passion for art and design has evolved, so has my desire to bring light and joy into client's homes. I view good design, decorative objects and art as God's way of bringing beauty and order into the spaces we inhabit--sparking life. MJH DesignArts expresses that natural progression from appreciation of the created to the joy of creating new designs based on the international classics.

In addition to offering antique furnishings, MJH DesignArts manufactures our own line of lighting and furnishings. Sometimes we incorporate antique elements into our designs; at others, we design from the bottom up. Our fabrics and trims are chosen from top design houses such as Scalamandre, Edelman Leather, Fortuny and Houles, among others. We incorporate Brazilian rock crystal, coral, turquoise and other semi-precious stones into both our custom and vintage fixtures. We are committed to fabricating in the United States exclusively. And finally, we pay close attention to history, design and quality of fabrication--all with a view towards giving objects and rooms depth, texture, life..............and a little POP!!!

The principal, Mary Tindukasiri, brings a unique perspective to her work. She has lived a major portion of her life overseas--Mexico, Spain and Asia, in addition to New York, Washington, D.C., the South; finally calling Los Angeles "home". Jones (photo below) is a full-time employee of MJH DesignArts and brings his unique, happy perspective to the company.

Large Terracotta Lamp attributed to James Mont. This lamp is very similar to signed James Mont lamps: the shade and base are identical to several authenticated lamps by this reknown designer. The lamp measures 42" in height (including the shade) with a diameter of 9". The terracotta deity figural base is in excellent condition. The lamp is impressive and would fit seamlessly into a James Mont style room or mid-century modern.

Mid-century Tole and Turned Wood Chandelier

Mid-century Tole and turned wood chandelier. MJH DesignArts has completely redesigned this chandelier: The black painted chandelier is enhanced with gem-quality brazilian rock crystal and black tourmaline. Note the conformation of the leaves: each has been individually cut and shaped and appears to dance. It is a unique creation and has been fully rewired to current standards. Chinoiserie Pagoda Sconces

These pagoda sconces are an original lighting design by MJH DesignArts. They were recently featured in the room designed by Michelle Nussbaumer at the "Veranda" Show House, "Greystone Manor" in Los Angeles. Custom brass candle arms extend from a large hand carved wood pagoda structure that has been painted in chinoiserie by Newport Beach artist, Sharon Hutchison. The sconces are further detailed with a custom rough cut Brazilian rock crystal that measures 2.5" to 3" in length. These sconces have been designed and manufactured in California and adhere to current Underwriters Laboratory electrical standards. Large Tommi Parznger 12-Light Chandelier

Great large c. 1950 chandelier in the style of Tommi Parzinger. This hard-to-find and very desirable chandelier is in "as found" and great condition!! There are a couple of scratches to the black ring that supports the twelve brass arms and the original finish to the brass has somewhat degraded and there is a little roughness to the black signature ball (for me these minor imperfections only add to the beauty of the chandelier)---other wise this chandelier is in wonderful original condition! All of the twelve pierced uplight shades are perfect. One brass ball nut has been replaced. I have had the chandelier professionally cleaned and the wiring inspected and tested...it is set to go. The twelve brass arms easily disassemble for packing and shipping. (Please note: the height measurement is to the top of the black ball) Thanks for looking.

Carved Elephant Lamps, 19th c.

This is a fun pair MJH Design lamps created from 19th c. architectural fragments of elephants (probably from India) that have been fitted as table lamps. The base is a custom artist painted faux marble and the electrical fittings are of the highest quality heavy brass. Murano Somerso Bulicante and Lucite Lamps

Unique pair of lamps designed by MJH DesignArts. These stunning lamps were created with beautiful, light refracting Murano bulicante somerso with aventurine gold flecks bookends dating to c. 1950. They sit on a custom 3 inch lucite base which has been etched with a pair of horizontal lines. The lamps are fitted with solid brass custom fittings. The unique quality of these lamps (photos do not show the detail) is that the light from the included bubbles refracts in the lucite base and the clarity of the lucite draws light in from the bottom. The height of the lamp to the bottom of the socket is 15.5"; the total height including shade is 26". Faux Marble Baluster Lamps, 19th c.

Wonderful pair of MJH DesignArts lamps created using Italian 19th c. balusters. These lamps are fitted with custom patinated iron bases and caps and have been recently painted in a white and grey faux marble by Sharon Hutchison, a recognized Southern California artist. The lamps measure 23" to the top of the socket; a shade would add another 10" to the total height of the lamps. Baluster Lamps, 19th c. Italian Faux Marble

Wonderful pair of MJH DesignArts custom lamps composed of 19th c. Italian balusters with their original faux marble. The balusters are neo-classical in form which sets them apart from the usual bulbous baluster. The lamps retain the original 19th c. faux marble and patina and they have been fitted with custom iron bases and caps. The measurement is to the top of the electrical fitting; the shade adds another 10 inches (minimum) to the height of the lamp. Brass Whippet Lamps

This is a unique lighting design by MJH DesignArts. Large 20th c. brass whippets have been seated on a stepped lacquered bases and fitted as lamps. The finials are a custom Brazilian rock crystal design. The lamps were created in California to the highest standards with top quality brass fittings. The whippets combined with the pyramid plinths give these lamps a definite Art Deco, almost Empire air; they would integrate perfectly into most interiors from high to low. Murano Raspberry and Opaline Lamp

This is a beautiful opaline Murano lamp dating to the late 1950s and is attributed to Barovier & Toso (it lost its stickers). The raspberry glass has been cased and ribbed in opaline which melds to a pink shade. The glass section is in mint condition and has been seated on a new custom 2.5" lucite plinth and given new top quality electrical fittings. The lamp measures 25" in height from the table to the top of the socket. The process for making opaline glass involves blowing powdered lead into the glass and, therefore, this glass is no longer made and is becoming increasingly rare. Pair Eglomise Lamps, c. 1940-50

Unique pair of eglomise and decoupage lamps that date to the mid 20th c. These lamps are truly one-of-a kind: they were created using 19th c. English cut glass apothecary jars (which are highly collectible), hand colored prints and extensive gold leaf. Currently the jars are seated on simple square wood blocks (new verde antico faux marble bases are in process). I have included photos showing all angles of the lamps. The electrical fittings are newly wired and include dimmers. The height of the lamps to the bottom of the socket is 21 inches; together with the appropriate shades, the total height of the lamps is approximately 30 inches. These lamps would make a statement in any interior. There is patination to the eglomise and some fading to the decoupage work; otherwise, the lamps are in great condition. Thanks for visiting.

Art Deco Empire Crystal Chandelier

This is a beautiful French gilt bronze Empire-style crystal, agate and smokey quartz chandelier. This chandelier dates to the Art Deco period (early 20th c.) and it has been redesigned and refurbished by MJH DesignArts. We have added 36 large (2.5 inch) agate drops that are suspended on large cut smokey quartz beads. The cut agate beads range in color from black to deep chocolate with rock crystal inclusions. The chandelier has been fitted with new sockets and rewired. All of the hand cut crystal pendants and English cut beads have been re-secured and rewired where needed. Louis XV and Turquoise Bronze Sconces

This is a unique pair of 20th c. Louis XV-style gilt bronze sconces. The sconces have been redesigned by MJH DesignArts and have been fitted with semi-precious jewels: large rough chunks of turquoise, top quality faceted rock crystal beads and tiny faceted black onyx beads. Pair 20th c. Gilt Wheat-Form Candelabra

This is an unusually large pair of c. 1960-80 gilt brass candelabra in the style of Arturo Pani in a wheat sheaf motif. The wheat stalks are realistically detailed and have been further enhanced with an applied patina. Each candelabra is comprised of six candle arms united by a tied wheat sheaf. Additionally, the candelabra may be converted to large wall sconces. There is an on/off switch in the center of the wheat sheaf. Pair Marbro Blue & White Porcelain Lamps

This is a wonderfully decorative pair of mid-20th c. blue and white porcelain lamps. The bases of these lamps are of a very high quality porcelain (probably European) in an Asian-style candlestick form and a Chinese design motif. I believe that these lamps were created by either Marbro or Wilshire House. The remnants of the stickers are visible on the socket. Blue and white porcelain never goes out of style and these lamps would fit perfectly into both a bedroom or living room setting. The height measurement is to the bottom of the electrical socket. Pair Early 18th c. French Brass Candlesticks c. 1720

This is an excellent pair of early 18th c. period French Regence brass candlesticks c. 1720 in the Baroque manner. It is unusual to find a matched pair of candlestick of the age; usually one of the pair would become damaged. These beautiful candlesticks are composed of a knobbed baluster stem fitted to a stepped domed foot; they have a great presence and are in very good condition. The threading on one of the candlestick bases is stripped and a filler has been used to tighten the thread...other than this minor wear problem, they exhibit normal patination for their age and use. These are beautifully crafted hand forged French sconces that date to the early 20th c. The sconces retain their original finish and deep patina; they are further enhanced by tole flowers, acanthus leaves and iron twists. The back plates are hand cut and retain their patina. 18th Century Bronze Chenets Lamps

This is a wonderful pair of 18th century gilt bronze figural chenets (fire dogs) that I had mounted on custom lucite bases and fitted as lamps. The pair of young pastoral maids are beautifully cast and show high full relief detailing. The bronze chenets are in perfect condition and are signed on the reverse; they retain traces of their original guilding and the original fittings that once secured the bronzes to their iron fittings. The custom lucite bases are of the highest quality and provide a modern counterpoint to the 18th century chenets. These stunning lamps would complement any traditional design theme--and would work in many different spaces from livingroom to bedroom to diningroom or study. The lamps are sold as a pair. This is a great pair of brass urn lamps that dates to c. 1970-1980's. The condition of the brass is exceellent with one tiny, tiny dimple to the body of one of the lamps. The solid brass animal handles, the solid brass and top of the line electrical fittings are indications of the quality of the lamps.

Pair Blue Opaline Lamps, c. 1950

This is an extraordinary pair of Cerulean blue French Opaline lamps that dates to c. 1950. The lamps are fitted with cast brass laurel leaf bases and the opaline glass is further embellished with gilt banding. Opaline glass was fabricated by blowing powdered lead into the molten glass; because the manufacturaing process was extremely toxic to the glass blower, this glass in no longer made and has become highly desirable. The deeply colored opaline glass, as in these lamps is an added plus when considering value. The lamps measure 21 inches to the top of the socket; a shade would add another 8 to 10 inches for a total of 29 to 31 inches in height. Art Deco Sevres Crystal Lamp

This is a beautiful and rare French signed Sevres Crystal lamp that dates to the Art Deco period. The crystal is mouth blown and is in an amorphous tall form. The crystal shimmers when light is reflected off its flowing surface. To find a lamp of this large size is quite rare, with most lamps of this style measuring about 8 to 9 inches. The crystal is in excellent condition with a couple of barely visible scratches. I have had the lamp rewired, but retained its French fittings. Thanks for visiting. Pair French Caste Iron Finials. This is a wonderfully large pair of 19th c. pineapple form French garden or gate finials. They are quite large and retain their original painted finish. 18th/19th c. Iron Buddha Head

Interesting caste iron head of a Buddha. This iron head retains its original complex patina. I believe that the figure dates to the late 18th or early 19th c. and with the Persian influenced scrolling of the hair, probably came from India. I have not had the figure professionally appraised and do not warrant the attributions. The head comes with a custom wood base.

Selenite Cyrstal Balls

Selenite crystal balls. These balls were hand hewn at the mine and vary in size from 4" to slightly over 5" in size. The make an interesting highlight and are luminescent under light.

18th c. Spanish Madonna,

Beautiful 18th c. Spanish Madonna of cage form representing "La Virgen Dolorosa". This Madonna is in overall excellent condition: her hands have remained intact with minor rubbing to the surface; she retains her resplandor or halo; her face has minor flaking to her chin area and normal desirable patination; the cage support is original; her clothing was probably replaced in the 19th c., but is faithful to the 18th c. style. Her undergarment and faded silk dress are completely hand stitched while her cloak appears to be later and is both hand and machine stitched. She has 19th c. jewelry. The Madonna measures 16.6", together with her crown she measures 18.5". Thank you for visiting.

Early 19th c. Spanish Majolica Dish

This beautiful large antique Spanish majolica dish dates to the early 19th century, possibly erlier. I believe, judging from the slip design, that the dish is from Granada or possibly Puente del Arzobispo (both centers of majolica production dating back hundreds of years), but have not fully researched the dish so as to make a definite attribution. The dish is in remarkably good condition considering its many years and type of use. There are the normal (and expected) chips and flakes, but these only add to the beauty of the dish. Early 19th c. Spanish Majolica Dish

Antique Spanish majolica dish. This large dish dates to the early 19th c. (perhaps earlier), green color of the central design is crisp. I believe this dish is from Granada, possibly Puente del Arzobispo--both centers for the production of majolica dating back many centuries. This dish has an extensive hairline crack and several (to be expected) chips. The use damage has not in any way compromised the beauty of the dish. Thanks for looking.

Lacquered Chinoiserie Bracket

This bracket is an original MJH Design. It has been hand carved of alder wood in California and has been finished in a piano lacquer. The standard bracket is available in either black or ivory lacquer. The bracket can be ordered in a painted finish in custom colors (please send paint chip). A nominal charge of $20.00 is added for custom color painted brackets. Additionally, these brackets can be converted to a custom ordered Chinoiserie bed crown. There is a charge of $100.00 for the bed crown conversion with custom paint. The lead time for the chinoiserie bracket or bed crown is 3 weeks. Thanks for visiting.

Early 20th c. Art Nouveau Textile

This is a highly unusual vestment that dates to the late 19th/early 20th c. The crimson color of the background silk with roundels of peace doves combined with the embroidery, couching and metallic ribbon and applique handwork, in addition to the application of myriad color paste stones, make this a truly unique textile. For the ease of photography, I have folded the beautifully worked sleeves over the shoulder section; the sleeves are worked both front and back. The back of the vestment is in excellent condition with a small bit of fading at the edges of the hem. The front of the vestment has suffered from the effects of many years of the Gospel being carried on the left arm of the priest. Only the left side of the background silk has been affected. This truly amazing textile could be made into several beautiful pillows and/or runners; the perfect back portion could be framed as art. More photos are available upon request.

Wonderful pair of late-19th c. Staffordshire poodles. These are great example of old Staffordshire pottery and are in the desirable large size, approximately 10 inches. The front legs are in the more desirable detached form. One of the front legs has been invisibly restored and there is a hairline to the body. These beauties make Jones (my huge poodle) a little jealous and would add interest to any room. Great as a counterpoint to mid-century design. Thanks for looking.

This is a highly decorative set of 5 Japanese lacquer stacking tables. This charming stack is executed in traditional red/coral lacquer with gilt floral detailing and dates to the mid-20th c. Shown is an example of fine Mexican silver work dating to the mid-20th c. (late 1950 to early 1960). This piece is very heavy and is completely made by hand; the level of quality is of the highest. Both the sterling silver chain and the pendant are signed with the maker mark in addition to the sterling markings; it has been attributed to the family of Ema, probably her father. The carving to the stone is off excellent quality, but the refraction causes the photos to be distorted. The quality and rarity of this piece make it highly desirable to collectors. The heft of the pendant and the design elements put it on a par with the work of the Los Castillo workshops. Thanks for looking.

This is a pair of vintage tole peint jardinieres in the French Louis XVI style. These highly decorative jardinieres were made in Italy in the mid 20th c. and are stamped made in Italy (shown in photo). The planters are well-detailed with little lion paw feet, rolled edges and great gondola form. As can be seen in the photos, the jardinieres have been used and show some rusting, but overall they are in excellent condition with all elements intact. The jardinieres are hand painted in a traditional French motif. These charming pieces are becoming increasingly more difficult to acquire and a pair is a special find. Thanks for looking.

18th c. Santo Figure

This is a unique Spanish Colonial carved figure of St. Francis that dates to the 18th century. The unusual depiction portrays St. Francis with angel wings. As shown in the photos the Santo has suffered losses to his hands and is missing one wing; vestiges of the original paint appear on the single remaining wing and body; there is an age crack to the body of the figure. 17th c. English Bible Box

This is a wonderful c. 1670-1680 English oak bible box that retains its original and heavily patinated finish. The box is in overall unrestored good condition. It has lost its lock, but retains the original lock plate. The hinges were replaced in the 18th c. and have suffered even more wear; one hinge has broken at the back, but I am going to leave it as is as I believe the condition adds to the character of the box. As you can see from the photos, there is wear to the bottom corners of the box and a little chunk is missing from one side which reveals the original square cut hand hammered nail. This would add a wonderful decorative and historical detail to any library or family room. Thanks for visiting.

Shown is a wonderful early 19th c. hand hammered copper kettle with a hand-forged iron handle. The kettle shows signs of use, but it is in overall good condition. I love the character of the hand made copper rivets and the acquired dents which give this piece a much-loved patina. The kettle has been beautifully polished. Shown is a charming mid-20th c. Italian pottery figure of a putti with grapes--which makes him (her?) a Bacchanal Putti. This large putti displays great detailing in the modeling and has a very sweet attitude. She would be a great focal point for a dining table or buffet or perhaps mounted on a small column. She can also be paired with the turquoise putti listed separately. As you can see from the photos, this little putti is smitten with her mate. Great mid-20th c. Italian Putti in the much sought after turquoise color. The glazing of this figure combined with his super character make every room that he enters pop. He is in good condition with a couple of invisible minor restorations to the tips of the flowers and a flake at the base.

This guy would add a jolt of color anywhere he is placed, but he would be particularly stunning being a focal point of a dining room. He can be paired with his Bacchanal Putti mate (which I have listed separately); they would make a perfect pair for a long buffet or as a centerpiece for a long dining table. This is a great pair of mid-20th century porcelain (perhaps ceramic) leopards--male and female. These figures are quite large and heavily potted, they are opposing and very elegant. There are no visible markings to the figures, but stylistically they appear to be either French or Italian. These are the most unique camels that I have ever seen! These guys date to the early 20th c. (maybe a little later) and are carved wood, finished with gesso and paint which has acquired a wonderful patina over the years with sections of the bare wood now exposed. The camels are feisty and are "spitting" as camels do when they are a little antsy. The camels can be adapted to side tables upon request and at nominal charge. This is a magnificent pair of French Art Deco Bookends attributed to Lalique in frosted molded art glass. Unfortunately these bookends are not signed, but they carry all of the markings of Rene Lalique design and fabrication. The seams have been perfectly polished; they are very heavy; the sculpting and light refraction combined with the surface treatment of the glass are all hallmarks of fine Lalique pieces. This is a highly detailed and fine porcelain with a scolloped rim and many floral reserves of various forms. There is gold detailing to the pattern which is all in excellent condition. This is the second of two Japanese Imari chargers that date to the Maiji Period, c. 1875-85. This beautiful porcelain exhibits all of the wonderful characteristics of Meiji Imari--deep cobalt, floral reserves, almost abstract shaped reserves, center medalion. The charger is in excellent overall condition without chips, flakes or cracks. The over glaze enamel is in near mint condition and is the gold detailing. Folk Art--Vintage bottle cap chain

Shown is a very unusual antique/vintage bottle cap Folk Art chain composed of individual links created with antique/vintage bottle caps. The chain measures approximately 8 feet in length with each link measuring approximately 7 inches in length and 5 inches in width. All of the bottle cap appear to date to before the mid 20th century. I have the chain arixing from a c. 1850 military campaign trunk and draped over a bronze camel which is a newer restrike of an antique form. The chain would display well hung in a strait line down a wall and would display it's sculptural qualities much better. This is a well-detailed bronze plaque of the birth of Jesus (Nativity Scene) the plaque is further detailed with cherubs to the upper corners. The plaque is in excellent condition. I believe that the plaque is probably German, but it is impossible to tell its true origin with complete certainty.

The sculpture appears to have a restoration at the ankle, but it is possible that this was intentionally crafted as a copy of the antique. Pair Impressive Urns by Jerome Massier Fils, Vallauris c. 1870-1880

This an amazing and very large pair of French Faience/Majolica handled urns by the famous French potter Jerome Massier Fils, Vallauris. The urns were created in the Renaissance Revival Style and date to c. 1870-1880. The Messiers family was active as potters dating from the mid-18th century and is credited with the establishment of Vallauris as a center for artistic pottery in the 19th century. The brothers Delpin and Clement Massier and their cousin Jean-Baptiste (pottery known as Jerome Massier Fils) established their own individual artistic faience factories, creating the famous Vallauris pottery center. The quality of all the Massier work was exceptional with the creative and innovative examples being the most highly valued. Clement developed a luster glaze for which his work is famous. This pair of urns by Jerome Massier Fils is in exceptional condition with no detectable flaws or restorations. The urns have been fitted with custom gilt bronze gas fittings (now adapted to electrical sockets) which I have removed and reserved for buyer. The detailed modeling of the urns, the varigated green and mustard glaze are all indications of exceptional quality. It is extremely difficult to fire such large pieces of pottery without some damage showing up upon removal from the kiln. The photos speak for themselves. The last photo shows the urns prior to removal of the bronze electrical fittings. This is a gorgeous vintage Fortuny pillow in the "Ucelli" pattern. The fabric dates to the late 1950s and is in an unusual colorway of midnight blue (almost purple) and mauve. These shades are an unusual combination for Fortuny and are highly desirable and of the moment. As can be seen in the photos, the color intensity varies according to the light, which makes the pillows even more interesting. The "Ucelli" pattern was inspired by Renaissance art; it is valued for its fine detailing and mottling. This piece of vintage Fortuny has never been used and retains its original crispness. This is a wonderful pair Fortuny pillows created with vintage c. 1970 Fortuny fabric. The highly graphic "Peruano" pattern is uncommon and derives its inspiration from the ancient Incan culture and symbols. I spent most of my childhood in Central Mexico and these sybols take me back to my many visits to ancient Aztec pyramids and temples. The pillows are backed in a very high-end Kravet charcoal/gray silk strie which adds textural detail and depth to the pillows without detracting from the vintage Fortuny fronts. As always, the pillows are futher detailed with my customary tiny welt and 30% down to 70% feather custom inserts and hand sewn closure. 18th c. Mexican Painting, Studio of Miguel Cabrera

Fine Large Spanish Colonial (Mexico) Oil Painting, Studio/School of Miguel Cabrera. Mateo Miguel Madonado y Cabrera (1695-1768) was born in Antequera (now Oaxaca), Mexico and relocated to Mexico City in 1719. It is believe that he studied under the Rodriguez Juarez brothers or, perhaps, Jose de Ibarra. Cabrera was stylistically influenced by the Spanish painter, Esteban Murillo and French painters of the period. During his lifetime, he was recognized as the "Greatest Painter of New Spain". Cabrera established a large workshop in Mexico City where, as Official Painter to the Archbishop of Mexico, he executed many commissions. In addition to his religious paintings, Cabrera is known for his "Casta" paintings and portraits. In 1753, Cabrera founded the first Mexican Academy of Painting. This painting dates to c. 1740-45 and has been informally attributed to the Studio of Miguel Cabrera by the Denver Museum of Art. The Salvator Mundi theme is unusual and derives from 17th c. engravings, a common source of inspiration in Colonial Spain. The child Jesus (Nino Jesus) is supported by a trio of cherubs and rests his left hand, holding a gold cross, on the world. The painting is based on the religious symbolism employed by artists of the period. The light striking the figure brings life to the entire painting. The pose of "El Nino Jesus" was intended to educate the viewer regarding all of the major tenants of the Christian faith, but the artist does so in an almost playful manner. The child is so real, his faith and trust in His Heavenly Father perfectly revealed. The painting measures 31.5" x 40"; the measurements with frame are "40 x 47.5". The painting is in good overall condition It has been loosely glue to board and does not retain its stretcher; the frame is not original and dates to the mid 19th c.

Charming early 18th c. French Regence mirror. This mirror is perfectly scaled; it retains its original beveled silver mirror plate; the top shell is an old embellishment which is not original, but adds character; the gold has been retouched. This mirror would integrate perfectly into a traditional French, Swedish or Belgium (Axel Vervoordt) designed interior. I love the detailed molding around the shaped mirror. Photos of the back of the mirror are added so that the true age and character of this little mirror shines through. Please note: because of its age, the silver backing on the mirror is highly patinated; this adds value to the mirror, but makes it little challenging to use to apply make up. Thanks for looking.

Mid-18th c. Mexican Santo of John the Baptist

Beautifully detailed Mexican Santo of John the Baptist. This wonderful figure dates to the mid-18th c. and retains most of its original surface, and carved elements. John is holding a finely carved and emotive lamb which is looking up at him in complete trust. The figure measures slightly more than 22 inches, has glass eyes, original hand and fingers, much of the original "estofado" polychrome detailing and a wondering expression of sadness as if he were anticipating his future. The figure is positioned on a finely carved plinth which was used to carry the Santo in processions--this is a very unusual feature. Note: John is missing the shepherd staff and some of the brackets into which poles were inserted for the processions. Thanks for looking.

This is a very fine pair of mid-18th c. hand colored engravings of Parrots by noted naturalists George Edwards (1694-1773) and Mark Catesby (1683-1749). Edwards and Catesby were pioneers in the field of natural history documentation; Edwards is known as the "Father of British Ornithology." His A Natural History of Birds (London; 1743-51) was produced almost single-handedly. Edwards not only wrote the text for the book, but also made the drawings, etched the plates and hand colored the prints to be bound in each volume. Truly this work was one born of passion for the subject. The parrot subject matter of these engravings is highly desirable and the coloring of the parrots is magnificent. These folios date to the mid 18th c.; the impressions measure 7.25" x 9.25"; they have been newly framed in 22kt. white and yellow gold leaf with a fine silk mat; the interior edge of the mat is also detailed in gold leaf. Please excuse the quality of the photos as the glass gives quite a bit of distortion (also forgive the photographer). These engraving would do any fine library justice, as well as a dining room or English-style bedroom. Sold as a pair. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful Maison Jansen (attributed) Black Lacquer Center Table. The table dates to c. 1934-1940 and, although unsigned, it conforms to other signed Maison Jansen tables in all of its design elements. The smoked eglomise glass insert is identical to recognized signed Jansen tables, black piano lacquer, regency style, detail of carving, as well as overall quality of the piece. Jansen signed only 30% to 40% of its pieces out of respect for its clients (reference: "Jansen"). The table is in excellent condition with very minor restoration. The black lacquer has been refreshed and the eglomise top has two very minor losses. This is a wonderful table and would be an addition to any space.

This great set of beakers or sterling glasses dates to the 19th c., is hallmarked and is probably middle eastern in origin, perhaps Indian, as I do not recognize the hallmark. They are certainly NOT in perfect condition, but would be perfect as individual or grouped sterling floral vases--similar to the way mint julip cups are used. This is a charming 19th c. caste iron sculpture of a Chinese boy with a book quitely reading while perched on the back of an ox. The fact that the child is reading a book, as opposed to a scroll, gives the 19th c. attribution. The zen qualities of peace and tranquility represented by the resting ox, together with the little boy focusing on what he is reading draws the viewer into the scene. The little boy detaches from the ox and the ox bares a chop mark to the bottom. The sculpture is in overall good condition with some pitting to the surface and abrasion of the bronze patinated surface. The stand is for display only (a custom stand can be fabricated upon request at a nominal charge).

Pair of early 20th c. bronze seated Buddha figures fitted as lamps. This early 20th c. pair of bronze bookends was redesigned by MJH Design with unique custom chinoiserie bases, the lighting fittings are of the highest quality. The bronze Buddhas measure 5"w x 8"h x 4.75"d and retain their original patina. Although unmark ed, I believe them to be American bronzes dating to around 1920. The lamps have been embellished with Brazilian rock crystal custom finials and slightly outsized linen shades. As with all of our designs, the lamps were created in California. Sold as a pair. Great pair of 19th c. brass English coach lanterns. This pair of brass lanterns is in excellent condition for its age and use. (Note: there are few minor dings) Although they even come complete with their oil lamps, this pair could easily be electrified. Note the oval brass indentification tags to the front of the lanterns which show the effects of many years of careful polishing. I love the original beviled glass panels. This is an outstanding, large faux bamboo mirror in pagoda form. This piece dates to around 1940 and retains its original mercury glass mirror which has begun to haze and acquire a great antique patina. Beautiful mid-20th c. Limoges fine porcelain dinner service in deep cobalt and 22kt. gold. This is a wonderful cobalt and gold service comprised of 8 each dinner, salad or dessert plates, 7 bread and butter plates, 8 soup dishes, 8 demi-tasse cups and saucers and 6 coffee or tea cups and saucers (55 pieces total). The quality of the deep cobalt glazing is comparable to Severes and is no longer available; the gold is rich and of the highest quality-22kt. or higher. Note that the interior of the cups is completely guilded and the underside of the saucers is fully glazed in cobalt. Fine cut crystal or even fine antique Japanese Imari could be integrated into this service. The condition of the service is excellent, we have not detected any chips, flakes or scratches. Excellent and highly desirable pair of Jorge Castillo Casalderrey (b.1933) Etchings. Jorge Castillo is a very well listed (Davenports, Artnet, Akoun, Benizit) Spanish artist. He belongs to the surreal movement. Since 1962 Castillo has divided his time between New York and
Barcelona. These etchings date to 1962 and are part of a series Castillo executed based on the series of engravings by Goya, and are one of his most important works. Castillo is versed in many artistic mediums and is known for large sculptural works. His works are shown in major museums throughout the world and he is considered to be one of the most important contemporary Spanish artists. He has been represented by the Marlborough Gallery in New York. These are etchings are of high quality, no visible damage (have not been removed from frame); in one of the etching one can see the face of Goya as if emerging from a cloud. The images measures 16" x 18"; the framed measurement is 22" x 24". They were framed in Geneva, Switzerland in contemporary gold leaf frames which are in excellent condition. Sold as a pair. This is a wonderful Kittinger Regency-style partners desk that dates to the mid 20th c. Early 20th c. Large Signed Painting of Nude

Large oil-on-canvas nude by Victor Schivert (1863-1929). Victor Schivert is a well-listed artist (ArtNet, Akoun, Benezit, Davenport) and is most recognized for his nudes and Elizabethan-type works. Schivert was born in Romania, but spent a major portion of his artistic life in Paris. This painting was probably executed in the artists Paris studio and dates to the early 20th century, the style is Post Impressionist. Note the fine detailing of the cup and spoon on the side table, the handling of light coming in through the window and the relaxed air of the model. This model was frequently used by Schivert and their familiarity is obvious. The painting is framed in a fine gilt frame which is in excellent condition. Impressive large credenza/sideboard in the style of James Mont. This ebonized walnut credenza was created in the mid-20th century. It features a silver drawer and shelf on the left side and a shelf to the right side. Highly detailed Majolica Planter with dolphin handles and putti riding on dolphins to the sides. This is a wonderful example of majolica (either English or French) that dates to the 19th c. It is unmarked, although I am sure an expert in this field would know the maker and other pertinent facts. It has very high detailed relief and wonderful colors. The interior color in a violet tinged pink; the underside is yellow (the photos do not show colors well). The piece does have one invisible repair to one of the dolphin fins which measures approximately 1/2 inch and it has a small repaired hairline that measures less than 1/2 inch. Great pyramid-shaped heavy cut crystal inkwell. The is an impressive piece of crystal which appears to be mouth blown and bevil cut. It has the look of Baccarat. This is a highly decorative early 18th c. William and Mary lowboy or side table. This piece has undergone several restorations over its 200 year life span. I believe that it was originally the base of a highboy and that the current top was added in the early 20th c.; the drawer has also been restored. One of the brass pulls dates to the 18th c., I had the second pull caste from the original. Although this table does not retain its collector value, as a decorative piece it is unique and desirable: note the trumpet legs, the architecturally arched front, the high arched side panels, the serpentine stretchers. This set is composed of two serving pieces each 12.3 inches in length; one is an open slotted spoon/fork, the other is spoon shaped. The handles are carved rosewood; the utensil body is heavy hand hammered sterling silver with the signature Spratling embellishments. Both pieces display the Spratling First Period (1931-1946) mark. I have tried to photograph the mark (rather unsuccessfully). The set is in excellent condition--there is a slight roughness to the rosewood and one of the handles is a tiny bit loose (the pin needs to be tightened). Thanks for looking.

William Spratling taught architecture at Tulane Univeristy. While in New Orleans, Spratling became an active member of the New Orleans literary colony whose members included John Dos Pasos and William Faulkner, with whom Spratling wrote and published Sherwood "Anderson and Other Famous Creoles." In 1929 Spratling moved to Mexico and quickly integrated into the famed Mexican artictic community; he promoted the work of Diego Rivera and other Mexican artists in New York Galleries. In 1931, at the suggestion of Dwight Morrow, Spratling moved to Taxco, Mexico, a small town with silver mines that date back to the 17th c. Spratling established his silver workshop in Taxco and was quickly joined by other silver artisans. Taxco became known as the center of the Mexican silver industry and Spratling, as the Father of Mexican Silver.

Wonderful collection of early 20th c. Ex-votos or "Milagros." I believe that these little plaques were made in Italy and were commonly attached to figures of saints by a petitioner when praying for divine invention. The collection is composed of 13 silver and 2 brass ex-votos. The sizes vary. Chinese Enamel and Jade Box

This is a highly decorative Chinese turquoise enamel and jade box that dates to c. 1925-35. The jade disk is a carved "Ho-Ho" bird and is in excellent condition. The box is a brilliant turquoise enamel set in a brass structure. The brass frame is stamped "made in china." As shown in the photos, the top of the box has a small area of roughness where the enamel meets the brass frame and there is very minor cleaning abrasion to the enamel. The back side panel has a small area of enamel loss. I love the fact that the turquoise enamel extends to the interior of the box.

This is an excellent example of Mid-20th c. American design. The cart is executed in square brass tubing with thick glass tops; there is a 3" brass gallery that rings both the top and the shelf; the casters are typical of mid-century design. Because of the lightness of design, the cart appears to float. This cart would make an unusual and striking beside table. The cart is in overall excellent condition with minor oxidation to small areas of brass. Carts of this quality are frequently listed on other sites at usually much higher prices. Great pair of Fortuny Pillows in the "Spagnola" pattern. The Fortuny fabric for these pillows dates to approximately 1947-1949 or shortly after the death of Mariano Fortuny. The fabric is in mint condition and apparently was carefully stored by its original owner. The backs and tiny welts of the pillows feature a high-end silk pinstripe in complementary colors. These pillows would add depth and character to any room, but especially a Belgium or Axel Vervoordt inspired room. The blue and white would also complement collections of chinese blue and white porcelains, as well as Swedish Gustavian design. The Fall and Winter colors of dark chocolate brown and aubergine would contrast beautifully with these pillows. The custom filler was made specifically for these pillows and is composed of 25%/75% European down/feather; the pillows are fully lined and are absolutely beautiful. I was able to purchase quite a large piece of this Fortuny yardage and so, I will be able to make up pillows to individual specifications and using a custom client supplied backing and welting fabric. Amazing Solid Gold Leaf Lamp/Table

This is an amazing c. 1960 completely gold leafed lamp/table combination. It is American made and really the height of kitsch, which it what makes it spectacular--so much 24 Kt. gold. The shade and the table edge are framed in a composition material that resembles carved wood. The table and shade are in excellent condition; there is a small water mark to the table and a little crease to the shade. There is minor rubbing to the gold leaf at the juncture of the light socket and pole. (Makes me wonder if anyone is daring enough to position it in an 18th c. gilded room?) Thanks for looking!

This is a unique pair of French early 20th c. faux marble and fine tole flower urns. The urns and their gorgeous tole flowers date to c. 1920; the urns have been recently faux marbled by an expert faux finish artist. These urns would integrate perfectly into a traditional French, Swedish,Belgium (Axel Verdoordt) interior--or a minimalist modern design. This is a great pair of Chapman solid brass floor/bridge lamps that date to c.1970. Each lamp retains the original and the most desirable oiled bronze finish and both lamps are in overall good condition. There are a few minor abrasions to the bronze finish which are to be expected of a fixture that is almost 40 years old. One of the lamps has a very small "ding" to one corner which is shown in the photo. The switch incorporates a dimmer mechanism; the lamp is height adjustable and the lamp shade swivels to direct the light where desired. One of the dimmer switches has been replaced. This is an absolutely breath-taking pair of mid-20th century Murano lamps. Although they have lost their hang-tags over the years, the lamps bear all of the hallmarks of Markoff Brothers for Marbro/Barovier and Toso lamps: excellent attention to electrical fitting and mount detailing, beautiful art glass fabrication, large size and out-of-the-ordinary classic styling. This is a stunning custom pillow crafted with c. 1920 Mariano Fortuny fabric. The colors of the Fortuny fabric are the traditional "Fortuny green" and a mottled brown/beige. The back of the Fortuny fabric is black, as is usual for old Fortuny. The pillow is enhanced with antique French metallic fringe. The pillows is completely lined and the filler is custom 25% european down/75% european feather filler. The corners of the pillows are rounded and the metallic fringe and closure are hand stitched. The backing is Beacon Hill silk velvet in a coordinating sage green. Note the beautiful detailing of the scrolling leaves, flowers and vase and the wonderful patina that the fabric has acquired over the past 80+ years. Chinoiserie Stands, Early 20th c.

Highly desirable and decorative early 20th c. near pair of Chinese stands. As can be seen from the photos, these stands are slightly different: one has an ebonized top surface and is approximately 1 inch higher than the second stand. The both display "bundled" legs, a second shelf, wonderful fretwork aprons and unusual detailed side stretchers at the bottom. Both of the stand are in good condition, one of them is a bit loose and one of them is missing a tiny piece of the fretwork (shown in the photos). The stands retains their original finish and patina. This is a wonderful c. 1870-1880 French pale oak table in the Gothic taste. Note the gothic detailing to the to the skirt, the middle stretcher and the form of the legs. This a beautiful painting of an African-American woman reading in front of a window. This painting dates to the early 20th c. and is in a post-impressionist style. Unusual 19th c. Japanese dish raised on elephant head supports. This is a highly decorative lacquer piece in a coral lacquer. Early 19th c. French Portrait

This is a very interesting portrait of a French "citoyen" dating to the early post-revolution 19th c. The painting has suffered during the last 200 years years, but maintains great integrity in the subject matter. I have had the painting relined and stabilized, but have left the painting without retouching or in-painting. The artist was clearly a talented painter who was intimately familiar with his subject matter. The painting gives a true reflection of the common man of the era, not unlike the common man depicted in the works of Goya of the same time-frame. Francis Bacon would probably love this image. I have left the painting in the frame in which it came, but I think that it could also be hung without frame. This painting is well-priced with the condition issues reflected in the price point.

Pair of c. 1960 Tobia Scarpa arm chairs. These are iconic chairs designed by Scarpa in the 1960s. They have been recently lacquered in black and upholstered in a khaki leather. This is a stunning pair of mid-20th century club chairs in a tub form. These chairs date to late 1950/early 1960 time frame and are in the style of Edward Wormley for Dunbar (possibly Dunbar) . They are beautifully upholstered in an appropriate high-end ivory fabric. Every detail of the chairs is crisp and well-executed. These would integrate well into any room--from living room to bedroom. Pair 18th/19th c. Chinese Porcelain Lamps

This is a pair of unusual antique Chinese porcelain lamps in the famille verte palette that date to the late 18th c. or early 19th c. The mounted warrior figures with upheld spears are uncommon and are opposing which adds interest to these great lamps. Jones (huge poodle) ate the antique carved wood of one of the lamps (mad because he did not get to go to work) which necessitated replacing the bases; upon taking them apart the old "GRACIE and Sons" sticker on the bottom of the lamps was revealed. "Gracie and Sons" is the famous New York based creator of hand-painted chinoiserie wall papers and lighting that dates back to the first half of the 20th c. The company is now know as "GRACIE" and similar lamps can be referenced on their website. Please note: One of the vases is in excellent condition; the other has been restored. The lamps have been fitted with new custom canted-side lucite bases through which the "GRACIE and Sons" sticker (which covers up the chinese mark) can be clearly seen. The porcelain vase section of the lamps measures 14.5 inches and the custom lucite base measures 2.5" x 6.5". These lamps would look great with shades in a complementary shade of green, but I will leave that up to the individual design choice. The price reflects the restoration to one of the lamps. Antique Walnut Wine Tasting Table

This is a classic mid-19th century wine tasting table in solid walnut. The table is in excellent restored condition with all elements being original. A prior owner had the tilting mechanism secured providing great stability to the table, but the table can easily be returned to the tilt format. The majority of wine tasting tables of this style had pine tops which were then covered with either canvas or oil cloth; this table top has been constructed with a much more desirable thick walnut top. The table has just been waxed in the traditional french manner and the graining and rich patina stand out. (Please excuse the glare in some of the photo). Thanks for looking.

Shown is a mid-20th c. signed Baccarat crystal free-form table lamp. The luminescence and clarity of the crystal is of the highest level. The crystal portion of the lamp measures 10"; the addition of an appropriate shade would bring the total height of the lamp to approximately 20 inches. We have had the lamp rewired using the highest quality fittings and silk-wrapped cord. The lamp is signed with the etched Baccarat circle. Vintage Fortuny Fabric Pillow

This pillow is newly fabricated with vintage c. 1960-70 Fortuny fabric in a highly unusual color way. The beautiful orchid/lavender tone is overprinted with a creamy mauve. The color is highly unusual in Fortuny fabric and is perfectly tuned to current trends in design. The section of pattern used features scrolling vines and flowers in an art nouveau type design. The pillow is backed in a high end silk in a shade of plum. The filler was custom made for this pillow and is composed of 25% European down to 75% European feather. As a further note of quality, the pillows has been fully lined.

Renaissance Revival Console/Table

This is a highly carved trestle-based Italian Renaissance Revival style console or library table. The table dates to the early part of the 20th c. and is composed of solid walnut. Of interest is the beautifully detailed carving to the six legs supporting the y-form trestle. The skirt and the top edges are all fully carved and in excellent condition. There is very slight warpage to the surface boards, but this seems to add to the original patina of the table. The top is a beautifully faded figured walnut. The table has been newly hard paste waxed in the European manner, all elements are original and excellent condition. This would make a stunning sofa table, narrow dining table or even a desk. It could even be used as a kitchen island or for a double sink bathroom counter (that would definitely be pretty decadent). (The last two photos show the table prior to waxing) Thanks for looking.

Hand Painted Chinese Panels, c. 1960

This is a stunning set of 6 framed hand painted Chinese panels depicting a flowering cherry tree set in rock work with various birds and flora. The panels date to c. 1960; the birds, peonies and cherry blossoms are beautifully executed in fine detail. The panels are further defined by vintage antiqued gold leafed frames. All of the panels are in overall good to excellent condition with very minor (barely noticeable) water staining and some spotting; these minor flaws do not detract from the panels, but simply add a layer of natural patina. The panels have been executed on silk laid on board. I have not been able to determine if the panels are vintage Gracie works (Gracie hand painted papers and screens were executed in China). This is a great pair of Japanese, early Meiji, pricket sticks. These sticks are in excellent condition and a have acquired just the right amount of patina over the last century. All elements of the sticks are original. I love the carved rosette detailing where the shaft meets the wide base--note the contrasting of the dark rosewood and fine carving of the rosettes against the otherwise minimalism of the sticks. Terra Cotta Lion Sculpture

This is a wonderful bust of a lion executed in terra cotta. Although unsigned, this is a unique piece and exhibits all the marks of having been created by a master sculptor. This beast is beautifully detailed in high relief and has tremendous character; he exhibits the noble traits we all attribute to the lion. I believe that he dates to the early to mid 20th century and has a great natural patinated surface. He would add depth to any setting from garden to library. Thanks for looking.

Monteverdi Young Leather Chairs

This is a wonderful iconic suite of 4 Monteverdi Young (attributed to Maurice Bailey) leather swivel chairs that date to c. 1970, but were designed c. 1960. The quality of the chairs is exceptional in all respects: the chairs are in their original glove leather upholstery and finish. The heavy brass casters are all original. The color of the leather is titled "London Tan" and although still supple it has acquired a wonderful patina, with the backs fading to a lighter shade. In addition to the casters, the seats of the chairs swivel. Everyone who sits in these chairs is in awe of their comfort. Note the fine leather welting that was used throughout the chair upholstery. All elements of the upholstery (cushion, springing, padding, stitching) are in very good condition. There is one small 1.5" slit to one of the chairs which has been professionally restored and is invisible. The true color is shown in the last two photos. This is an unusual pair of pillows fabricated from c. 1960 "De Medicci" vintage Fortuny "museum cloth". "Museum cloth" is a Fortuny term for their fabric when the pattern is applied to a cotton twill fabric, rather than the usual "Egyptian" cotton. The vibrant yellow color way is also unusual making these pillows true attention grabbers. The pillows are completed with a complementary high-end silk fabric; the fillers are composed of a ratio of 25% European down to 75% European feather. This is an unbelievably beautiful pair of c. 1930-1940 chinoiserie eglomise (reverse painting on glass) end tables. Although the tables are not marked, I believe that they are either French or American in origin. The level of painting detail is very high, as is the quality of the cases themselves. There has been some restoration to the glass: one eglomise panel located on the back of one table has been replaced; several of the black glass strips have also been replaced. Pair Black Lacquered Chests, Mid-Century

This is a great pair of Mid-Century (1960-70) black lacquered chests. The original owner lined the drawers in a high quality faux leather; so I cannot see the name of the fabricator--but the very high quality of construction points to a top furniture manufacturer. The chests are composed of hard woods with the drawers and frame being oak and the balance being maple and walnut. The chests have been newly relacquered in a semi-gloss. The backs of the chests are also finished in the semi-gloss lacquer. The photo of the drawer side shows the dovetail construction and the graining of the oak. The drawer fronts are fielded with a picture-type molding. The chests are raised on a floating frame giving them a unique elegance; the high quality solid brass hardware is centered on each of the 5 drawers adding to the vertical impact of the chests. These are perfect bedside chests, but are appropriate for almost any setting as they are completely finished on the backs. Thanks for looking. Sold as a pair.

This is a handsome and ever-popular 20th c. surveyor wood and brass tripod that has been fitted at a floor lamp. This lamp is a great accent piece for a library, family room or office, as well as a beach home (think spyglass). I know, I know--Restoration Hardware has a surveyor tripod lamp--but the one shown above is much more refined, mahogany legs, higher quality brass fittings, smaller in scale and (frankly, in my opinion) better style than the RH model (it is also considerably less expensive and vintage). This is a handsome English-style heavy brass planter or foot bath manufactured by Chapman and dating to the late 1970-1980 time frame. This is a wonderful pair of Chinese Export vases in the Rose Canton (Famille Rose) palette that date to the last quarter of the 19th c. The vases are in excellent condition with the exception of a tiny lose to one of the dragons on the neck (to be invisibly restored). There is some rubbing to the gold and a tiny bit of the over-glaze black enamel has been lost. The painted details of the birds and florals are all excellent. The neck of the vases has a wide band of traditional Rose Mandarin diaper work with reserves of florals. The over-all quality of these vases is excellent. The larger size of the vases adds to their decorative value. These vases can be fitted as lamps (refer to the last two photos). These are custom gold leafed bases with outside electrical mounts (the vases will not be drilled). Please add an additional $450.00 for the custom gold leafed bases. Gustavian/Swedish Chest

This is a highly unusual Swedish pine chest or grain bin of serpentine form and dating to the Gustavian period (late 18th/early 19thc). The chest is in excellent condition considering its age and intended use. Most bins have a deeply slanted lid; but this example has a very gently sloping lid which allows it to be used as a table. The chest retians most of its original square nails and was created using a hand plane. The serpentine baroque form is unusual and adds great interest to the piece. There have a been a few very minor restorations to the piece, in keeping with it use and age. The old pine has a beautiful soft patina that will only get better the older it becomes. This piece would make great storage for extra towels or blankets, unused sky clothing, etc. while serving other purposes. (I think it would make a fantastic dog food dispensary but that is because Jones is very spoiled.)

19th c. French Trestle Table

This is a unique early 19th c. folding trestle table from France. There have been several of the usual old restorations found in tables of this age and use. I believe that the top, although antique, is associated. The base of the the table is walnut and the top is oak. This table would make an unusual and graphic coffee table (it is cocktail table height) in the Belgium aesthetic. It would be equally at home with traditional country antiques as with modern design. The table would even be suitable for use as a bench. Right now Roberto is giving it as final tightening and hard paste French wax and it will be set to go in a couple of days. Thanks for looking. This is a great pair of antique Chinese porcelain blue and white ginger jars. The cobalt design element is unusual in its theme of children playing and gives a more decorative quality to the jars. The jars are in good condition without chips or cracks. One lid is associated and displays a mold or glazing fault that has extended to the rim of the lid and has acquired a very small chip. The cobalt blue of the jars is more intense than that shown on the photos. There are no other issues associated with the jars. Thanks for looking.

Brass and Marble Writing Table, c. 1920

This is a highly decorative and useful brass and marble dressing table or writing table. Although this form is not frequently found in the U.S., the use of brass in the design of furniture in the early 20th century in France was indicative of high style. Note the quality Louis XVI style detailing to the legs and the kidney shape to the table itself. The table is in excellent condition; the brass has been polished and the original marble is beautifully figured and remains in perfect condition without chips or cracks. This table would be a perfect fit for a neoclassical bedroom or dressing room. This is a great mid-century turquoise glazed pottery lamp. I have not removed the vase section from the base to check for any markings on the bottom, but I believe the vase is American, created in the Chinese manner; the lamp is fitted with a chinese-style carved wood base. This an interesting faux marbled tiered stand. I believe that the stand dates to the late 19th c.; perhaps the faux marble detailing is a bit later. As this is an unusual form, I'm unsure of its ancestry, but believe it to be a late Gustavian piece, perhaps it is French. Note the wonderful patina that the faux marble has acquired over time. The form of the stand makes it appropriate for many informal room settings from kitchen (dishes and flatware) to bedroom (night stand) to bath (towels and miscellaneous)--perhaps a great place for each child's homework with its various shelves. Antique Moroccan Bench

Hard to find c. 1850-1880 antique Moroccan bench. This bench has all of the bells and whistles: inlaid mother-of-pearl details, spindle-and-ball work, out-swept arms and detailed carving. It was painted in the early 1960s and upholstered at that time in an ice-blue velvet with hand-made tassels to the four corners. There are old minor restorations to the bench, but it is in overall good antique condition. Some of the mother-of-pearl inlay has been replace and an old break has been professionally repaired (hardly visible). There are two tiny little wooden spindles missing which I will not restore. This bench represents the aesthetic that is currently featured in all of the high-end design magazines. Thanks for looking.

This is a wonderful pair of highly detailed carved and mother-of-pearl inlaid Moroccan corner chairs that date to c. 1920. The chairs are in good vintage condition with a couple of very minor losses to the spindle and ball fretwork detailing. This type of seating has been a constant in Morocco and other parts of the Near East for several hundred years. the shape of the arch echos that of moorish architecture. These chairs would be a perfect detail in a library, living room, before a fire or even a child's room because of their size. These little chairs have just returned from the upholsterer (see detail photos) and have been reupholstered in a bold Ralph Lauren paisley fabric; their springs have been retied and padding replaced. This is a great early 1970s black lacquer and acid etched brass chest of drawers by noted artist Bernhard Rohne for Mastercraft. The chest, as shown in the photos, is in unrestored original condition and is on its way to be brought up to snuff. There is minor loss to the patina of the brass panels on the top surface of the chest and a scrape to the lacquer on the back of the chest. All other elements are in excellent original condition.

The is a wonderful pair of late 1950s Mastercraft chests of drawers in bleached walnut and in the Louis XVI style. The chests are in very good as found condition and are on their way to the restorers for minor touch ups and buffing. As can be seen in the photos, the bleached walnut is beautifully grained and the provincial Louis XVI form of the chests make them easily adaptable to either 20th c. or antique design aesthetics. Mastercraft was one of the premier American furniture manufacturers of the 20th c. and was represented by Baker Knapp and Tubbs--its craftsmanship was of the highest order and vintage pieces are highly prized. These chests are very similar to the new Barbara Barry chests created for Baker Furniture--the exception being the side panels and the exceptional graining of the walnut on the front and tops of the Mastercraft chests. This is a great pair (left hand pair) of large signed French Academic charcoal figural sketches of nudes dating to c.1945-50 by J.L.Clemenceau. This is the right hand pair of French Academic charcoal nudes by J.L.Clemenceau and dating to c. 1945-50. Clemenceau graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts. Clemenceau was a listed French artist and noted paintings teacher who was active during the second half of the twentieth century. I acquired his Ecole des Beaux Arts portfolio some time ago and have started framing these great sketches. These sketches are signed and are in fairly good condition. I love the movement detailed in the sketches; these four (another pair is available under separate listing) show an attempt to bring hints of cubism into the artist's technical range. This pillow was created with vintage 1960's Fortuny fabric in a rare and highly desirable and of the moment color way of mottled pale lime green fading to yellow which has been overprinted with ivory. The fabric has acquired a soft patina and is almost silk-like to the touch. The custom filler is 30% down to 70% feather. I'm listing a portfolio of Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts academic drawings by J.L.Clemenceau that date to the early 1940s. This is a representative sample of these amazing charcoal drawings of which there are thirty folios. I'm sending 6 out to be framed in double mats and simple black frames, but wanted to post the folios to the website before they came back from the framer. The measurement of the framed folios is 34"h x 28"w. This is a great late 19th or early 20th century French iron and marble top console. The console is in excellent original condition, with the exception of the restored thick (1 inch) black marble top. Renaissance Elizabethan Refectory Table c. 1550-1580

This an exceptional find and I love it. This late Elizabethan (Renaissance) Oak Refectory table represents what I love most about antique furnishings: a deep soul which has evolved over many centuries; great lines, quality construction; utilitarian, multi-purpose, old patinated finish, etc. The table has gone through more than one reincarnation over the past 400+ years. At one point it was painted white (small remnants of paint remain); there are a couple of restored losses; old but not original finish. Additionally, this table was once probably of draw-leaf form, but was transformed to a simple plank form sometime in the late 17th/early 18th c. All of the wood (oak) elements appear to be at least 18th c., if not original to the table. It has the Axel Vervoordt sensibility and soul and would work well placed in a zen environment, Spanish Colonial or Italian or, naturally English designed room. I am sending the table out to a well-respected Italian restoration specialist to have the table properly brought back to its (almost) original state, but wanted to post photos first (boast). This is a pair of impressive late 19th/early 20th century French carved "fauteuil a la Reine" or large open arm chairs. The frames are of carved walnut over which a circa 1980s faux craqueleur finish has been expertly applied. French Iron and Tole Deco Mirror

This a great French Deco iron and tole mirror. The iron frame is detailed with tole acanthus leaves, scrolls and flowers. These mirrors are becoming more and more difficult to find. The finish and patina are original and there are no losses to the tole work--the patination is great. This is a wonderful Louis XVI-Style bergere of barrel or wing form that is just a little outside of the Louis XVI period and dates to c. 1840. The highly carved walnut frame is in excellent condition and has been bought down to a bare surface, highlighting the beauty of the old wood. Louis XV-Style Sofa

This is a wonderfully carved French Louis XV-style "canape en corbeille" or basket form sofa and dates to the late 19th or early 20th century. The solid walnut frame is carved in high detail and is in excellent condition. We have taken the surface of the frame down to the raw wood which brings the sofa into the 21st century. The sofa is newly upholstered in a high-end 100% linen fabric and is detailed in a coordinating gimp and spaced nail heads. The pillows were created by my wonderful pillow wizard of the finest plum cotton velvet with a very tiny welt and a filler of 30% down to 70% feather (the pillows shown separately represent the true color of the velvet). Louis XV Bombe Commode c.1750

This is a perfect example of a c.1750 Louis XV bombe commode. This commode exhitis so many of the highly desirable traits of mid-18th century case pieces. This commode is constructed of solid walnut. An unusual feature is the excellent original quality in which the commode is found: there is virtually no worming to the piece and the the four "snail" feet are all original and the commode has not been "tipped". Walnut is a relatively soft wood and is ideal for the carving and shaping of period pieces of furniture. Unfortunately, walnut is very susceptible to wood worm/terminite damage and most period pieces exhibit various degrees of damage. The sides do not show evidence of shrinkage, although there is some minor shrinkage to the top. The drawers sides and bottoms are original, but the glides have been replaced. All of the locks are present; we do not have the key. The beautifully cast bronze hardware dates to the 18th c., however, I believe it is perhaps old replacement as you can detect a slight shadowing where the previous hardware was positioned. Note the detailed carving to the drawer fronts and the sweep of the bombe form. The commodes exhibits a beautiful rich patination. I have called this beauty Madame Victoire, after one of the daughters of Louis XV. The commode is well priced at $14,500 (please research comparable pricing for pieces of equal quality). This is a great (and perfect) pair of John Keal for Brown & Saltman chests of drawers in teak that date to the early 1960's (perhaps late 1950's?). The chests are beautifully designed with a true mid-century aesthetic and highlighted by the beautifully figured and book matched teak, modernist blackened backplate with a nickel-plated drop, and beautifully shaped front feet. Both chests are in excellent condition and the finish shown in the photos is original and as found. Pairs of chests are very difficult to find and in this condition, almost never. This is a highly decorative pair of large soft paste Paris Porcelain footed reticulated baskets. The baskets are in overall excellent condition with a couple of very minor flakes and rubbing to the gold detailing, which is to be expected in pieces of this age and use. Wonderful early 20th century pair of Steamer Deck Chairs. These chairs are made of solid mahogany with brass detailing and pegged construction.

Although simple in design, the quality of materials and fabrication take these chairs to a higher level. It is unusual to find this many identical chairs and all of them in almost pristine condition. The photos were taken prior to having the chairs cleaned and futher detailed with hard paste wax... when completed, the chairs will pop. (I'll post more photos when the chairs have been spiffed up: all spiffed up, see photos 1 and 2) Although these chairs were originally intended for outside use, I have paired them with an early 20th c. inlaid star table and they look great. The chairs' sculptural aesthetic, quality of materials and construction make them a perfect fit for mid-century or Danish Modern design. Gilt Marble Top Console c. 1880

This is a great English Baroque style carved gilt console that dates to the last quarter of the 19th century. The console retains its original gilt surface; there are some minor restorations to the carved details. Some of the carving is applied. The grey marble top is original and shows great patina to the surface. I have include a photo of the original maker's label; unfortunately, some of the label has worn off so it is not really possible to ascertain the maker without a more detailed search. Vintage c.1970's Indonesian Batik Pillows

Gorgeous c. 1970's Indonesian Batik pillows. This vintage Indomesian batik fabric was created in Jogyakarta on the Island of Java. Batik fabrication involves a wax resist dye process whose origin can be traced back to 4th century BC Egypt. Batiks from this area are characterized by the use of three primary dyes derived from natural sources and which symbolized the three principal Hundu deities: Brahma, Vishnu and Siva. Batiks from this region also incorporate elements or symbols derived from the Javanese conceptualization of the universe. Depending upon the technique used to apply the wax resist to the fabric, the creation of the individual batik can take from 2 to 3 days to 3 months. In this particular batik there are little beings depicted throughout the textile with what appear to be either large angel or eagle wings. The colors are deep indigo and ivory white. The artistry and detailed execution of the piece indicate that the batik was undoubtedly created by a skilled artist. I chose to fabricate create these pillows using a "French" corner, tiny-tiny welts and a custom filler composed of 30% goose down to 70% goose feather. The pillows would mix perfectly with other quality blue/indigo textiles such as antique French ticking or Ikat and would be perfect for a beach cottage or mountain retreat. Pair Marbro Glazed Terra Cotta Chinoiserie Lamps c. 1960's

This is an outstanding pair of 1960's Marbro chinoiserie lamps. Although the photos do not do justice to the scale of the lamps, they are very large--the figures w/plinths measure a full 25-26 inches; when the shade and finial height is added, the total comes to almost 40 inches. The glazed terra cotta figures were made in Italy and are very finely detailed, the woman's modeling especially is almost as fine as blanc de chine; the glaze is also of a very good transluscent quality. The figures are mounted on patinated gold leaf bases and all elements of the lamps are in excellent condition. I did have two tiny chips invisibly restored (a couple of petals tips). The Marbro sticker is retained on one of the sockets and the finials are the original Marbro design. The lamps are sold as a pair. Japanese Lacquer Hibachi, Meiji Period

This is a large and beautiful example of a 19th century, Meiji Period (1868-1912) lacquer hibachi*. The hibachi retains its original copper bowl and the "hiramakie" lacquer is in remarkably good condition considering its age (120-140 years) and intended use. The hibachi is covered in a deep brown/black lacquer with applied gold leaf scrolling and floral decoration. The corners of the hibachi are protected with beautifully chased brass plates and the outside corners are also braced with chased brass. There are minor losses to the gilt work and some abrasions to the lacquer which are appropriate patination. The last photo is taken "with flash" and highlights the detail. I envision this beautiful piece to be an ideal vessel for an arrangement of phalaenopsis orchids positioned as the focal point on a large center table or console. Large Lacquer Box, Edo/Meiji Period

Shown is a beautiful Late Edo/Early Meiji Period Lacquer Storage Box. The Makie gold lacquer is in excellent condition and features scrolling vines, leaves and florals on a very dark black brown base lacquer. The box is futher detailed by black lacquered legs ending in chased brass hooves. The legs are fittted with holes which would have held a silk cord that originally was used to secure the lid and carry the box. All elements of the box are finely detailed. There a minor loss to an underside support and there is an inside (only) minor crack to the lid.** All of the original highly chased brass elements are present, with the exception of one diamond fitting on one leg (see photos No. 3), and in good condition. Pair Regency-Style Bergeres, Mid-20th c.

This is a great pair of mid-20th c. Regency-style caned bergeres/open arm chairs (I believe that they are English in origin). Superlative is the appropriate terms for these chairs: they are very generous in size, the tapered legs are reeded, the horse shoe shaped back rail is carved and molded and gracefully descends from the back to the front leg support, the cane backs are in perfect condition and the chairs retain the petit finials where the arm supports meet the back rail. I believe this silk velvet upholstery dates to the 1960's and is a true 1960's peach tone that deepens according to the light (the photos show saffron, but it is a peach) and is in perfect condition. In the second photo I have plopped vintage 1960's Fortuny pillows onto the chairs--the Fortuny pillows are sold separately. Mid-Century Tufted Leather Sofa

This is a gorgeous and very high-end vintage late mid-20th century sofa that I believe was created in either France or Germany (could be Danish, also). Although the sofa was created approximately 40 years ago (I'm estimating), the leather is in exceptional as found condition (Roberto will clean and wax her next week) with no damage to the leather, the cushion are all good and the internal construction is fine. Note the beautifully upholstered rounded down-swept arms and the profile of the bottom of the side which mimics the movement of the arm. The back (attached) cushions are beautifully tufted and also in excellent condition. True to late mid-century aesthetics, this sofa sits low to the ground and is sultry and sensuous. I have married the sofa to my vintage Fortuny "Peruano" pillows, a pair of Michael Taylor for Baker late 1950's lamp tables and a pair of 1960's Italian carved and gilt wood lamps. The vignette gives off a decidedly Mad Men vibe. Sofa's of this quality, when new, are priced in the $10,000 range. Thanks for visiting. Etching by noted Spanish contemporary artist Jorge Castillo Casalderrey (b.1933). Jorge Castillo Casalderrey was born in Galicia, Spain in 1933; was raised in Argentina and since 1962, has divided his time between New York and Barcelona. Jorge Castillo belongs to the Surreal Movement and is a very well listed artist (Davenports, Akoun, Benezit). The works of Castillo are shown in major museums throughout the world and he is considered to be one of Spains most important contemporary artists. Basilius Besler (1561-1629) Engraving

Original Basilius Besler (1561-1629) hand colored copper engraving from the Hortus Eystettensis which was first published at Eichstatt in 1613.

Basilius Besler was an apothecary and botanist who managed the garden of Bishop Johan Conrad at Eichstatt. This garden was one of the most extensive in Europe at the time of the crafting of the Hortus and it served as the inspiration and resource for the Hortus Eystettensis, the first large folio attempt at horticultural cataloguing on a monumental scale. Besler worked on the drawings for 16 years; although the majority of the engravings seems to have ben completed between 1610 and 1612. At least six engravers collaborated in the making the 374 plates comprising the Hortus Eystettensis; more than 1000 plants representing 667 speies were depicted.

This folio has not been examined outside the frame, but it has been authenticated by a print specialist. It appears to be from the original edition; unfortunately, the folio has been glued to its backing. This folio appears to have been framed in the mid-20th century with the hand coloring dating to that time or earlier (Only 10 to 12 volumes of the original edition of the Hortus Eystettebsis were hand color). The mat is linen in a complementary shade; the frame is patinated gold leaf. The impressed sight image measures 15.5" x 19". Aside from being glued to board, the image is in excellent condition with no foxing. I have priced the folio at a decorative level to account for the gluing. Thanks for much for visiting.

This is an interesting and highly detailed abstract painting entitled "In The Beginning" signed by Hutchison. I have no information regarding this artist, but judging from the quality of the painting, attention to detail and the use of light through out, he must be a competent artist. This is superb mid-century, c. 1940-45 French Academic charcoal sketch of a sitting nude posed with her back facing the viewer. The sketch was executed by J.L.Clemenceau. Clemenceau graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts and later went on to become a noted French paintings teacher. This is a large mid-century French Academic drawing by Clemenceau that dates to c. 1945-50. I acquired the academic portfolio of Clemenceau and have started to frame these wonderful charcoal figural drawings. Clemenceau graduated from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts. This a late 19th or early 20th century European Post Impressionist Landscape painting. Although this painting is unsigned, it bares all of the trademarks of being executed by a very competant and trained artist: the palette work, use of light and shadow, the perspective are all excellent. Note the movement of the clouds and the low horizon. The measurements listed are those of the painting without its wide gold frame. This a wonderful small oil-on-canvas landscape painting with great cows by the English artist John Boultbee (1742-1812). John Boultbee is listed in Davenport, Akoun, Artnet and Askart and his larger paintings sell for upwards of $20,000. This work is well painted with good light and great character given to the front-facing cow. The frame is later than the painting, but is appropriate for the subject matter and time-frame. Although not signed on the canvas, the painting retains its catalog paperwork provenance on the stretcher and frame; the painting was recently deaccessioned from the Brand Library/museum located in Los Angeles. Dutch Baroque Period Mirror c. 1680

This a highly desirable c. 1680-1700 Baroque Period Dutch mirror. This mirror has all of the fine details of Dutch Baroque Mirrors of the period. The mirror features several carved and raised moldings that have been ebonized and further embellished with figured walnut banding. The outset corners further highlight the intricacies of the frame. All elements of the mirror are original with the exception of the mirror plate. There have been restorations to the moldings where minor worming has occured. The surface of the molding section has been re-ebonized; it appears that the walnut banding retains its original surface. There is a centuries old restoration to the walnut banding at the lower right hand corner; I have chosen not to restore this old period restoration so as to maintain the integrity of the mirror believing that these old restorations add character and soul to the piece. The back maintains its original hand forged hooks and all of the backing boards, with one replaced board. We have not quite completed the restoration of the moldings; I will post additional photos of the mirror when fully restored. This is a unique pair of c. 1920-30 French Deco lacquered demi-lune consoles. The consoles are constructed of solid white oak and have been lacquered in off-white with a slightly open grain surface that highlights the beautiful graining of the wood. The consoles are influenced by the Louis XV style with beefy, modified cabriole legs, carved and shaped skirt with a well carved shell motif to the front and outset corners and molded edge top surface. This is a unique pair of Jacobean-style very early 20th century hall chairs that I have updated with black lacquer and upholstered in a Scalamandre silk damasque. The nail heads were retained from the original upholstery and provide a unique detail to the chairs. The form of the chairs is very sculptural and their profiles would add depth, interest and a touch of sculpture to any design theme from modern to authentic antique. The chairs are priced as a pair. The tone of the Scalamandre silk is a rich "tomato bisque" which becomes a neutral with the addition of the gold (swatch is available upon request). I love this sassy Venetian bergere. Although it is not a period piece and dates to the early 20th c., it is well carved in rocaille and has very sexy legs, The gilding has mellowed, but still retains a lot of pop. I have upholstered the chair in a high end cotton velvet in a deep plum/purple tone that adds a touch of bordello to its features. The bergere is in excellent condition with the expected patination to the gilding. The price point reflects its uniqueness. This is a charming early 20th c. Chinese coromandel lacquer tea stand. The stand is highly detailed with incised classical Chinese patterns; the top and shelf are further detailed with scenic chinoiserie. The lacquer shows wear consistent with the age and use of the piece--for me this simply adds interest and integrity. This is an iconic pair of Dorothy Draper Espana Tables. The tables are in their original almost mint condition. The black lacquer and gold work are the best that I have ever encountered...there are a couple of scratches to the gold work, but this is to be expected. The undersides of the tables bare a hand written inscription which is dated 9/59. The tables are very well priced and would make a great addition to a mid-century room. Sold as a pair. This is a beautifully designed and fabricated set of 4 French Art Deco mahogany side or dining chairs. The chairs are designed in a Louis XVI influenced Art Deco style. Note the outset finely turned front legs, the slightly widening oval back and the vintage leather and nail head upholstery details. These chairs are in excellent vintage condition with very minor restorations. The seats have had their springs retied. I love the patina of the vintage leather. Because these are classic chairs they can be mix with other side chairs with good classic lines--I even think that they would work with Chinese Chippendale faux bamboo chairs. This is a funky pair of George I (Portuguese) style open arm chairs or host chairs created by Henredon in the 1960's. I fell in love with these chairs because of their sexy legs and outrageous form, of course they were in a pecan finish--not this great Italian green. We have refinished the chairs in a deep Italian green and reupholstered the seats in a high end linen velvet. The solid oak construction, scolloped front, great carved detailing to the legs, carved shell arch to the backs and original caning make these chairs practically jump up and down. This is a great pair of walnut cabinets attributed to Monteverdi-Young and dating to the mid 20th century. These pieces offer super versatility as they can be used as bedside cabinets, sofa side cabinets, or as a sideboard when aligned side-by-side. the cabinets are in excellent condition and retain their original surface; the top surface has been refreshed. Note the beautiful brass escutcheons/pulls with detailed backplate and the brass line inlay to the top. Monteverdi-Young was one of the great American furniture makers of the mid 20th century and was located in Southern California. Monteverdi-Young pieces were sold only in top tier furniture stores and the company is recognized as a leader in 20th century design; it's pieces are highly desirable and collectible. This is a fabulous late 19th/early 20th c. chaise longue in a Napoleon III style. The squat feet are well carved and unusually detailed for a chaise of this time frame. This chaise was upholstered in a very high-end platinun leather with a gorgeous perlized finish. The back is deeply tufted. The condition of the leather is excellent throughout and the upholstery work is of the highest caliber. The chaise was beautifully cared for by its prior owner and retains a lovely soft patina to the gorgeous supple leather. This is a gorgeous period Art Deco (c. 1930) Occasional or Coffee Table that has been finely executed in the Louis XV Style. This is a highly detailed mid-20th century solid mahogany Chippendale style pedestal side table. I couldn't resist having it lacquered in multiple coats of a red lacquer in a shade that is mid-way between a French** and a Chinese Red. The table measures 31 inches in diameter and 31.5 inches height and is in perfect condition. George II style Pedestal Table

I was inspired by Ralph Lauren's "Rosecliff" furniture line to attempt to mimic his $2000.00+ white painted lamp table. I found this great mid-20th c. solid mohogany table in an antiques store. The table is quite unusual in that it is 8-sided with is a lip edging the top, the table is further detailed with a great carved mahogany pedestal. I stripped that table down to its raw wood and chose a chalky soft white paint, a very Swedish off-white tone. This is a fantastic pair of English early 20th c. late Edwardian side cabinets in Regency Style. The quality of workmanship of these cabinets is second to none. The mahogany, satinwood and perawood stringing marquetry is some of the best I have seen in twentieth century furniture. The escutcheons are carved bone. This is a wonderful set of 4 Tomlinson chairs of horseshoe form. The chairs were designed by John Lubberts and Lombard Mulder for the "Sophiticates" line by Tomlinson Furniture in the 1950's. The set retains its original naked walnut finish and is currently upholstered in leather. All elements of the chairs are in excellent vintage condition. This is an unusual and very early pair of John Widdicomb occasional tables in rosewood and walnut. The tables have just been refinished to highlight the rosewood band that details the edges of the tables. The unusual and very happy form of the legs makes the tables pop. This is a beautiful set of 3 brass and glass nesting tables in the style of Bagues and dating to the 1970's. This is a highly decorative Italian carved wood and plaster mirror. The beviled mirror plate is surrounded by highly detailed arabesques in the style of gothic tracery. Baker Louis XVI Style Writing Table/Desk

Shown is a beautiful Baker Furniture Louis XVI Style Bureau Plat or Writing Desk. This desk was created during the 1960's or 1970's at the height of Baker Furniture's dominance of American furniture makers. This writing table is an exact copy of a Louis XVI period desk. The solid mahogany and tooled gilt leather detailing are in very good condition considering their age and use; the mahogany has acquired a beautiful patina with sun fading to the back which adds interest. The desk features pull slides to each side of the desk (as would a period Louis XVI Bureau Plat) which extend the width of the desk by another 20". The desk is shown in "as found" condition with only a hard paste wax applied to the surface. Baker pieces of this time frame are highly desirable and collectible and this desk is a beauty. This is an outstanding pair of circa 1950's Billy Haines-inspired pull-up chairs in a Hollywood Regency style. The form of these chairs is a riff on the traditional klismos chair--note the out-swept curving legs and curved back that has acquired an exagerted up sweep. This is a great set of 4 Monteverdi-Young mid-20th century pull-up chairs. These chairs are in remarkable all original condition. The frames are constructed of solid bleached mahogany, exhibiting the exquisite joinery detailing of the Monteverdi-Young workshop. These are deceptively heavy frames, which is an indication of the quality of the chairs. The chairs are upholstered in a fabric and color that was used in the late 1950s or early 60s, but it is hard for me to imagine that upholstery could have survived over 50 years in this pristine condition. Pair French Moderne Chauffeuses/Slipper Chairs

This is a stunning pair of French Moderne Chauffeuses that date to c. 1940's (perhaps a bit later). My fantastic upholsterer, Alex, just returned them yesterdaay afternoon-and he really made them strutt their stuff. I chose to upholster these guys in a Ralph Lauren black linen- any other fabric would have detracted from the great original gold and silver surface of the chairs. The chairs have been completely redone with new foam cushions and a beautifully detailed single welt. The gold and silver surface of the chairs gives them a glamorous Hollywood Regency feeling and takes them just a bit over the top--echos of Dorothy Draper. The caned backs are flawless. French moderne chairs of this style are relatively rare and to find a pair in this condition is unusual. Very early 19th c. Louis XVI-style mahogany chest of drawers. This is a beautiful petit Louis XVI chest of drawers that was made just slightly outside of the Louis XVI period. It was painted c. 1960-70 in an ivory color which has since acquired its own patina. It retains some of its original hardware and is in overall great condition. There are a couple of minor small veneer losses.

Early 18th c. Spanish Chest (Arca)

This is a traditional Spanish Arca or chest dating from the late 17th c. or early 18th c. The arca was chip-carved in chestnut of six board construction. There have been minor restorations to the chest: one of the bottom supports was replaced in the 18th c.; the lock plate is a replacement; a hole at the back has been restored; the original iron hinges have been repositioned because of wear; separation/shrinkage cracks have been filled. The chest retains most of its original waxed finish. Arcas were one of the major pieces of furniture found in Spanish homes of the period. In addition to storage, they were used for seating and as tables. The rusticity of this piece (note the asymetrical carving to the front of the chest) adds character and interest. Most of these rustic arcas suffered major losses due to hundreds of years of use and damage caused by sitting on cold damp floors. It is unusual to find a rustic arca in this condition. This arca would make an interesting coffee table in a country or rustic family room. Thanks for looking.

18th c. Louis XV Pine Armoire

This is a very graceful mid-18th c. Louis XV pine armoire from Normandie. The interesting and highly desirable feature of this charming armoire is its depth--only 17 inches vis-a-vis the normal 25 inch depth. This more manageable depth makes the armoire much more adaptable to current room sizes and usage, for example as a bookcase or to hide office equipment. Additional desirable features include the "chapeau de gendarme" crown, the detailed carving on the door panels, and the original mellowed wax patina. Note the carved crescent at the bottom center of the armoire and the arabesques to the crown. As shown in the detail photo, there is wear/loss to the section of the door where the lock abraided the opposing door over its 200+ year lifespan and the left-hand escutcheon has been lost. Otherwise, the armoire is in good condition with minor restorations over the years. Thanks for looking. I DO HAVE THE KEY!!!!!!

Louis XVI Style Daybed

This is a wonderful French gray painted Louis XVI-style daybed that dates to the early 19th c. (c. 1820-1840). This is a true daybed as its internal depth measurement is 30 inches. As can be seen from the photos, the daybed has acquired a wonderfully rich patina. One side rail is ribbon carved and the other side is plain. There have been minor restorations to the bed over its 160 years of life, but it is in overall good condition and is set to go. The simplicity of carving together with its rich patina make this daybed truly inviting for reading, napping or as a sofa. The daybed has just returned from the upholsterer: it is newly upholstered in a very high end 100% heavy Belgium linen with antiqued nailhead detailing. The new cushion is of feather wrapped foam. This is a breath-taking period French Empire/Napoleonic Lit en Bateau that dates to c. 1810-1815. This piece came from a Beverly Hills estate and is one of the most beautiful Lit en Bateau that I have seen. The bed frame is in excellent condition and the gilt bronze mounts appear to be original. The polished figured mahogany is in excellent condition with age appropriate patination. The bed is ready to go to its new owners. Pair Louis XVI Style Side Chairs with Chinoiserie

This is a wonderful pair of late 19th c. Louis XVI Style side chairs. The chairs retain their original gilding which has mellowed to a soft gold with the anticipated minor losses to the gilt work. The front legs of the chairs are carved in a spiral form, similar to Jansen examples. The chairs have been newly upholstered in a chinese red linen velvet with a large single welt and five buttons. The backs of the chairs are further detailed in a vintage Scalamandre silk in a chinoiserie pattern with chinese children on swings. These are great chairs that leave traditional Louis 16th chairs a little intimidated. These chairs would work in many design setting from the traditional antiques filled space to acting a sculpture in a modern room. Priced as a pair. Thanks for visiting.

This is a great American Sheraton maple harvest or wake table that dates to c. 1835-40. The table is in excellent condition, the base retains its original finish while the top has been resurfaced. There is a very small dent to the drop side (does not photograph well). This table is unusually long at 87.5" and the single drop side with two gate legs is characteristic of tables of this design and period. The large and impressive scale of the table makes it ideal for a long sideboard or console, perhaps even a sofa table. Tables of this size and period are usually priced much higher, but I was fortunate to have purchased it "well" and like to pass on "gifts". Please email me for additional photos and information. This is a beautiful early 19th c. English Regency carved oak Cockfighting Chair. The chair is in very good condition and it retains its original finish. I have reupholstered the chair in a top quality Edelman leather with patinated hammered nail head detailing. Cockfighting Chairs, which are sometimes referred to as reading chairs, were first created in the early 18th c. and were more eleborate in form. Some of the old and exceptional chairs are priced in the high 5-figure range. This little beauty exhibits great Regency Neoclassical detailing including a harp-shaped back whihc is further highlighted with the hammered nail heads. George III-Style Double Pedestal Desk, c. 1860-1870

This is a wonderful antique English double pedestal desk dating to c. 1860-1870. The desk is in a late George III style and is crafted of mahogany solids and veneers it retains its original green leather surface which is detailed with antique tooling and gilt work. There have been a few minor restorations to some of the mahogany venners and the leather shows wear to the edges and corners which is to be expected of furniture of this and age use. Note the graceful and high bracket foot and the fine hand cut dovetails. The size of the desk is generous without being too large...it's perfect for an office or study. LATE 17TH CENTURY SIDE TABLE

This is a gorgeous little side table that dates to the late 17th century. She has all the bells and whistles that make my heart sing: all original elements, overall good condition with the expected wear and tear of a piece that has been in use for about 330 years. Usually these old tables have restorations to their feet from sitting on damp cold floors and worm damage in several areas, but this little guy seems to be mainly intact. The old forged iron hardware on the drawer front is original and has acquired a wonderful patina. I love the fact that some one in the 18th century secured the top to the base with very large hand made screws; it also retains its original square nails and most of the orginal patina. Roberto is coming next week to spiff it up--he will remove the sticky newly applied finish that is only on the top; clean it up and then apply several coats of hard paste wax. I will post new photos after Roberto works his magic on this little gem. Just for fun, I'm adding photos of pieces in my inventory that would work with this table: a pair of Jacobean style side chairs which retains their original tacks and now upholstered in a Scalamandre silk (I kept the antique nail heads--great with the antique forged iron hardware of the table), a 17thc. century bible box, a late 17th century Spanish chest or "arca", and a late 17th ccentury Dutch mirror. And, PLEASE, let's not forget a pair of antique Fortuny pillows created with a Renaissance style Fortuny panel that dates to c. 1915 or 1920. I also think that this table would be a great counterpoint to a mid-century designed room supporting a Claude Conover vessel.
